Why "ku kuchie"?

The name

In Greek, κουκούτσι (ku-KOO-tsee) is the kernel. The seed at the very centre of the fruit.

An almond is a fruit with a stone, and what we sell is what sits inside it: the heart. Nothing around it, nothing added to it. That is what the name means, and it is the whole product.

Our story: from blossom to your kitchen

Our story

From blossom to your kitchen

One almond, one year in our orchard.

  1. February

    The orchard blooms

Every February the almond trees in Dimitritsi flower before a single leaf appears, and the whole orchard turns white and pink. This is where each year's harvest begins.

  2. Spring

    Green almonds grow

Through the spring the fruit swells on the branches, a soft green hull around the shell and the kernel growing inside it.

  3. August

    The harvest falls

When the hulls split open, the almonds are ready. The branches are shaken and the nuts drop onto nets spread beneath the trees.

  4. September

    Dried and shelled

The almonds dry in the late-summer sun, then the hard shells are cracked away to leave the kernel, the κουκούτσι, the heart of the fruit.

  5. Packed in Serres

Sealed and sent to the UK

The kernels are packed and sealed close to the farm, with nothing added, then travel to the UK for you.

  6. Nothing added

    Just the almond

No roasting, no salt, no oil, no preservatives. Only the raw kernel, exactly as it came out of the shell.
